Due to the overwhelming number of proposals that NGen has received, there will not be a second round of intakes for the AMHC program. We thank all the companies that have reached out across the country for their interest in the program.

Canadian manufacturing and technology sectors have an opportunity to capitalize on the power of advanced manufacturing technology and innovation to improve the design, processes, and supply chains to manufacture Canadian homes faster, cheaper and greener.

Canadian homebuilders need to triple the rate of housing construction in order to meet demand projected for 2030.  They need to reduce the unit cost of building homes by 54% to keep housing prices in line with price inflation. They need to lower carbon emissions per home by more than 20% in order to contribute to overall emission reductions in Canada’s housing sector. And they need to increase labour productivity by 60% to compensate for a shrinking workforce.

In this challenge, NGen is targeting a co-investment with industry of up to 200 M$ in projects to build advanced manufacturing capability in Canada by integrating advanced manufacturing technologies and innovation in the Canadian home manufacturing sector.

NGen is looking to invest in projects that:

  • Promote the introduction, development, and scale-up of advanced manufacturing innovative technologies in home building.
  • Aim to accelerate the rate of homebuilding in Canada.
  • Aim to decrease the cost and price of homes in Canada.
  • Aim to control or reduce environmental impact (including GHG emissions per home) while manufacturing.
  • Aim to enhance the efficiency, agility, and competitiveness of Canadian home building industry, thus enabling the development of new commercial opportunities for solution providers and manufacturers alike and providing homes for Canadian citizens.

Project Requirements
The projects must be transformative, applied, enduring, and collaborative and meet the scope criteria below:

  • Transformative – should impact manufacturing performance and have the potential to confer a significant global competitive advantage to the Canadian industry.
  • Appliedshould have significant potential for widespread commercialization.
  • Enduringshould provide broader benefits to Canada's advanced manufacturing ecosystem by helping promote Canadian home building capabilities in manufacturing, sharing industry knowledge, providing general education, training, and EDI opportunities, and/or enabling access to applied research, testing, and demonstration capabilities.

  • Collaborative – project should demonstrate meaningful collaboration between partners, developing industry relationships, building trust and sharing in knowledge, risk, investment and the resulting benefits.  Projects should involve the participation of multiple industry partners, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
